The Good , The Bad,
The Halloween Costume

 

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and I’m not talking about Christmas but the time wear all the leaves are changing colour, spirits are lurking about and you get to dress up  as a sexy  Ghoul, as your favoit star wars character or last minute homemade costume. So weather you are taking the kids out  trick or treating, going to the club, or a Halloween party, here are a few good costumes to wear or maybe just shouldn’t wear on All Hallows' Eve.   

 

Halloween originated during the 18th & 19th Centuries during the Celtic Festival of  Samhain / Calan Gaeaf .

 

Calan Gaeaf celebrated in Wales on November 1st which is the day of Winter on  Nos Calan Gaef the night before Ysbrydnos where it said to people avoided church yards, cross roads because spirits where out.

 

Samhain is  a festival that celebrates the end of the harvest season which is the mid day between the Autumn & winter equinox ( October 31). Mumming or guising customs where worn to hide or to inmate the Aos Si Supernatural beings  fairies or Elves. People also chanted in exchange for food. 

 

In the  5th Century during the Christianization of Ireland their traditions like Samhain where amalgamated into christianity. 

 

Kingston, Ontario 1911 a newspaper reported children going around a neighbourhood in costume.

In the  1930’s  A.S. Fishbach, Ben Cooper, Inc. started to mass produce Halloween costumes by the 1940’s they where the largest selling costume company in USA selling at all major retail stores.

 

In the 1950’s  pop culture icons like Davy Crockett, Superman & Zorro costumes started to became the popular costumes to wear

Halloween Scene:  ET dresses as ghost , Elliot as  a ghoul are out on halloween night to get ET to phone home.
